The Power of One
Researching Canadian History and reverse-engineering its dark and questionable beginning has brought me back to the significant 16th century. More specifically, to 1517. Exactly November 1st, 1517.
It also taught me that a person could sit in a classroom or a pew, or listen to however many hours of podcasts and other sundry media and still learn absolutely nothing of value.
Enter personal responsibility. Each and every one of us is personally responsible to learn and become familiar with, understand, and implement knowledge for the betterment of minds, hearts, souls, and culture and society. In a day and age where information is either skewed, withheld, or taught by those less than qualified, how is one to know what's missing? Information—whether sound or corrupt— leads to policy-making, sound-reasoning and judgement, learning, and documenting. It's a layer that's built upon a strong foundation, and if found compromised, must be dismantled and rebuilt.
Personal responsibility has taught me to blindly trust no-one at their word, and to investigate all matters to the point of exhaustion—to literally question everything ... even to the very reality that has been "presented."
This day, 502 years ago, an Augustinian monk nailed 95 theses or rebukes to the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy, to the doors of All Saints' Cathedral in Wittenberg Germany. That Augustinian monk was Martin Luther.
Pope Leo X reigned (March 9, 1513 - December 21, 1521) and issued the papal bull Exsurge Domine on June 15, 1520 as a flaccid response to what Luther started. Luther publicly burned a copy of the papal bull on December 10, 1520, leading to his excommunication, and to many other events that can easily be researched.
Pope Adrian VI succeeded Leo X for a brief time—January 9, 1522 - September 14, 1523. Pope Clement VII succeeded Adrian—November 19, 1523 - September 25, 1534. Pope Paul III succeeded Clement VII—October 13, 1534 - November 10, 1549. Pope Julius succeeded Clement VII—February 7, 1550 - March 23, 1555. Pope Marcellus II succeeded Julius—April 9, 1555 - May 1, 1555. It was a short papacy, cut short by a "stroke." Pope Paul IV succeeded Marcellus II—May 23, 1555 - August 18, 1559. Pope Pius IV succeeded Paul IV—December 25, 1559 - December 9, 1565.
There are so many arguments in circulation about Luther (to discredit him and his steadfast positions, and specifically on Rome and the seat of the papacy being the seat of the anti-christ), what he said or didn't say, whether he was a sober-minded and fiery intellectual, or a drunkard. Getting lost in these details is easy.
The "Reformation"
To measure the importance of an event, one must examine the event's wake—all that follows behind it.
In brief, the years following 1517 had Martin Luther translating the once publicly-banned-by-the-Roman-Catholic-Church (see the Council of Toulouse, AD 1229) and printing copies via the Gutenberg Printing Press. The Inquisition, who used to burn hand-copied Bibles—a major feat in time and effort—interrogating, torturing, and burning alive the owners of those Bibles (leading to mass slaughter) found itself up against an insurmountable foe. It had to turn to other means. Cardinal Thomas Wolsey (1473 - 1530) called it "Learning against Learning."
'
From a vile and graphic scene in Bone Tomahawk (2015) that captures, viscerally, an act of the Inquisition:
Learning against Learning
Why? To purposefully discredit the Scriptures, which were being translated, printed, and disseminated to the common person, and spreading like wild fire.
Why did the Scriptures need discrediting? They taught the beginning of Creation, the beginning of Man, Woman, and Animal-kind. They taught about the relationship between still, flat, centre-staged Creation and an extremely close and involved Creator. They taught the Fall, the Transgression of the Watchers, the mixture of kinds, and the corruption of the human genome, the Flood, the decentralization of power and scattering of the Language Groups—each assigned to a b'nai elohiym or son of God (Deuteronomy 32:8), the Plan of Salvation through a the Creator's chosen people-group through the Abrahamic line to, and through, the line of Judah, culminating in the Promised Seed of Abraham that would bless all Nations—fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth.
Everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved. ~ Romans 10:13; Acts 2:21
This knowledge threatened, above all, the seat of the papacy. For the Scriptures also taught the origin of the one known as anti-christ—the little-horn power of the Book of Daniel that would emerge from a 4th and final kingdom ... Rome.

... [Martin Luther] came reluctantly to the conclusion that the Church, especially the office of the papacy, was the Antichrist, and that what it was doing was deliberate. ...
The Counter-Reformation: Enter Ignatius Loyola and the Jesuit Order; September 27th, 1540; the re-gathering of ALL NATIONS under one rule
Roman Catholic clergy are required to 3 vows:
1. Poverty
2. Chastity
3. Obedience
The Jesuit Order has a special "4th Vow", or Extreme Oath of Obedience to the Pope—
http://www.reformation.org/jesuit-oath.html
"When a Jesuit of the minor rank is to be elevated to command, he is conducted into the Chapel of the Convent of the Order, where there are only three others present, the principal or Superior standing in front of the altar. On either side stands a monk, one of whom holds a banner of yellow and white, which are the Papal colors, and the other a black banner with a dagger and red cross above a skull and crossbones, with the word INRI, and below them the words IUSTUM, NECAR, REGES, IMPIOUS. The meaning of which is: It is just to exterminate or annihilate impious or heretical Kings, Governments, or Rulers. Upon the floor is a red cross at which the postulant or candidate kneels. The Superior hands him a small black crucifix, which he takes in his left hand and presses to his heart, and the Superior at the same time presents to him a dagger, which he grasps by the blade and holds the point against his heart, the Superior still holding it by the hilt, and thus addresses the postulant:"
Superior:
My son, heretofore you have been taught to act the dissembler: among Roman Catholics to be a Roman Catholic, and to be a spy even among your own brethren; to believe no man, to trust no man. Among the Reformers, to be a reformer; among the Huguenots, to be a Huguenot; among the Calvinists, to be a Calvinist; among other Protestants, generally to be a Protestant, and obtaining their confidence, to seek even to preach from their pulpits, and to denounce with all the vehemence in your nature our Holy Religion and the Pope; and even to descend so low as to become a Jew among Jews, that you might be enabled to gather together all information for the benefit of your Order as a faithful soldier of the Pope.
... ... ...
"1, _ now, in the presence of Almighty God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the blessed Michael the Archangel, the blessed St. John the Baptist, the holy Apostles St. Peter and St. Paul and all the saints and sacred hosts of heaven, and to you, my ghostly father, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, founded by St. Ignatius Loyola in the Pontificate of Paul the Third, and continued to the present, do by the womb of the virgin, the matrix of God, and the rod of Jesus Christ, declare and swear, that his holiness the Pope is Christ's Vice-regent and is the true and only head of the Catholic or Universal Church throughout the earth; and that by virtue of the keys of binding and loosing, given to his Holiness by my Savior, Jesus Christ, he hath power to depose heretical kings, princes, states, commonwealths and governments, all being illegal without his sacred confirmation and that they may safely be destroyed.
...
I do further promise and declare, that I will have no opinion or will of my own, or any mental reservation whatever, even as a corpse or cadaver (perinde ac cadaver), but will unhesitatingly obey each and every command that I may receive from my superiors in the Militia of the Pope and of Jesus Christ.
That I may go to any part of the world withersoever I may be sent, to the frozen regions of the North, the burning sands of the desert of Africa, or the jungles of India, to the centers of civilization of Europe, or to the wild haunts of the barbarous savages of America, without murmuring or repining, and will be submissive in all things whatsoever communicated to me.
I furthermore promise and declare that I will, when opportunity present, make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Liberals, as I am directed to do, to extirpate and exterminate them from the face of the whole earth; and that I will spare neither age, sex or condition; and that I will hang, waste, boil, flay, strangle and bury alive these infamous heretics, rip up the stomachs and wombs of their women and crush their infants' heads against the walls, in order to annihilate forever their execrable race. That when the same cannot be done openly, I will secretly use the poisoned cup, the strangulating cord, the steel of the poniard or the leaden bullet, regardless of the honor, rank, dignity, or authority of the person or persons, whatever may be their condition in life, either public or private, as I at any time may be directed so to do by any agent of the Pope or Superior of the Brotherhood of the Holy Faith, of the Society of Jesus.

From A Jesuit Priest's Perspective—Implementing Learning Against Learning
… Ignatius [Loyola] decided, after the Society [of Jesus] had been in existence less than a decade, to commit it to the staffing and management of schools for young laymen, a bold new undertaking for a religious order. Leadership, though a gift difficult to analyze, certainly consists in large measure in vision, in the ability to see how at a given juncture change is more consistent with one’s scope than staying the course. That is the quality Ignatius displayed at this juncture. The decision to found, staff, and operate schools meant that the Jesuits, while retaining their identity as missionaries, now also had an identity as resident schoolmasters. It was an identity not only foreseen in the [Jesuit] Formula but seemingly inconsistent with it. Somehow the Jesuits managed to hold the two ideals together.
The Jesuits now had a ministry that made them distinctive. They threw themselves into it unreservedly. By the time Ignatius died [on July 31, 1556,] more than thirty schools were in operation, principally in Italy but also in other countries. Ten years later there were thirty in Italy alone but also in France, Germany, and elsewhere. Two, for instance, had just opened in Poland. Besides offering instructions, the schools served as excellent bases for other ministries. Moreover, the Jesuits discovered that the schools gave them access to a population, such as the parents of their students, that might not be attracted to their churches.
…
[Ignatius] and his colleagues were, as university graduates, almost by definition committed to the “war against ignorance and superstitions” that in the sixteenth century engaged both Protestants and Catholics. Moreover, he recognized that at Paris the first Jesuits had learned certain pedagogical techniques that made them particularly effective teachers.

The Copernican Model—Birthed by Vatican Mathematician
https://www.wdl.org/en/item/3164/
De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (On the revolutions of the heavenly spheres), written by Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus (1473–1543) and published just before his death, placed the sun at the center of the universe and argued that the Earth moved across the heavens as one of the planets. Copernicus anticipated his ideas would be controversial and waited more than 30 years to publish his book. De Revolutionibus opens with a brief argument for the heliocentric universe and follows with an extensive set of mathematical proofs and astronomical tables. Copernicus was not trying to disparage the accepted wisdom of astronomers and religious thinkers; instead he sought to uncover a more elegant order in the universe.

In Summary
This post could go on and on. There's enough information to get anyone started for further research. To sum it up, it took only one act of courage to start a small movement—one that would translate into an eventual landslide. Regardless of the willful-ignorance of today, November 1st, 2019, history still testifies to the fact of the Power of One.
